Mount Everest Base camp Trek is one of the most sought after trekking adventures in Nepal. Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain stands at 8848m above the sea level. Mount Everest base camp trek leads you through the mountainous trails of Namche, Phakding and many other beautiful place en route. Your adventure trek begins and Lukla and continues through the giant glaciers and the ridgelines of the Himalayas. You will see the most amazing views on your way to Kalapatthar and observe the majestic beauty of the Khumbu region. Khumbu region as you may know has four of the world’s tallest mountains including Mount Everest, Mount Cho Oyu, Mount Lhotse and Mount Makalu. You will also get a chance to learn and immerse yourself in the culture of the Sherpa people residing in the region. The Mount Everest falls within the area of Sagarmatha National Park that is rich in mountainous flora and fauna and is home to the Sherpa people of the region.

The Mount Everest base camp trekking is generally a 14 day long trek that begins at Lukla. After landing at Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, you can spend a day or two sightseeing in and around the Kathmandu valley and going on short adventure trips. Kathmandu is a historical city rich in ancient temples, historical monuments and more. After a short tour of Kathmandu, you can go to Lukla from where you trek practically begins. From Lukla, you will need to hike to Namche Bazar, the Sherpa capital in the region. Namche Bazar is a nice place to relax and savor the beauty of the mountains surrounding you.

From Namche, you can hike to the remote villages of Phortse Tenga passing through the birch and rhododendron forests. Your Everest base camp trekking will then continue higher up in the Khumbu Region towards Pangboche where you will visit the famous monastery. Hike towards the Imja Khola river to DIngboche which is the most densely populated Sherpa village in the region. You can observe the culture of the Sherpa people and see their lifestyles.

From Dingboche, your trek will continue towards the Pheriche Pass and then to Thokla Pass. From there, you will continue past the foot of the Khumbu glacier and arrive at Lobuche camp. You can walk around the small village of Lobuche and stay at one of the lodges there. But often times, the lodges are full with tourists and you may have to share your room with a couple of other tourists. The Mount Everest base camp trek will then continue Gorak Shep. It will take you about three hours to reach Gorak Shep. From Gorakshep, you will head towards the Everest base camp.

After completing your Mount Everest base camp trek, you can return from Lobuche through Cho La travelling towards the wonderful Gokyo Valley that is rich in glacier lakes and offers stunning views of the mountains.
